CHARLESTON — A day consisting of ice-breakers, games, dramas and skits, yet one also aimed at reaching the hearts of young people with the love of Jesus is the goal for the upcoming diocesan junior high youth rally, set for Saturday, April 25, at Cardinal Newman High School. Short testimonies will also be presented by high school youth.

The day for sixth to eighth grade students will consist of a retreat style format and will feature one of the premier Catholic presenters in the United States. Doug Brummel shares the Gospel message by incorporating creative characterizations, comedy, storytelling, prayer and music into his presentations.

“Doug reaches the minds, hearts and souls of both youth and adults with his message of Christ,” said Jerry White, diocesan director of Youth Ministry. “Audiences are introduced to a variety of characterizations which draw their attention in a fun and entertaining, yet extremely thought provoking way.”

White added, “Doug’s unique style allows him to easily transition from topic to topic in a way which keeps the attention of both teens and adults while challenging them to incorporate the Gospel message into their everyday lives.”

The theme of the conference, “Holy Spirit Light My Fire!” will be addressed by Brummel in a variety of ways, White said.

Registration for the day is $20 per participant, which includes lunch, T-shirt, WWJD bracelet, keynote presenters, and more. Deadline is April 6.

“Plans are currently well underway to provide a day that the young people will not soon forget,” White concluded.
