An Easter message

Peace is an illusive gift that is missing from many hearts and homes, many nations and regions of the world this Easter — 2003.

We pray that the Risen Lord of that first Easter, the Prince of Peace, will bring to our world that gift which he alone can give — the peace that he said was to be his gift to the world, his gift to those who follow his will and his way.

May we discover that gift in our hearts and in our homes, in our nation and in our world, this Easter Sunday and Easter season, as we individually and collectively find our way to him, the Source of Peace.

We ask his Mother, the Queen of Peace, to help us find our way to him.

To celebrate this Year of the Rosary, proclaimed by Pope John Paul II, I invite you to join me and the people of the Diocese of Charleston in praying the Rosary daily, and in a special way on Oct. 12, at a site to be announced, or in your homes, for peace in our world and for family life.

We seek the intercession of the Blessed Mother in our quest for the Prince of Peace, the Lord of Easter, the Source of our peace and happiness.

May his peace reign in your heart this Easter, and always!
