Charleston seminarian ordained to the diaconate

Baltimore — David Whitman, a seminarian studying for the Diocese of Charles-ton, was ordained to the transitional diaconate on April 24 by Bishop James M. Moynihan of Syracuse, N.Y., at St. Mary’s Seminary and University. Sulpician Father Robert F. Leavitt,  president-rector, and Conventional Franciscan Father Timothy A. Kulbicki were joined by more than 40 priests in concelebrating the liturgy.

Whitman has spent his deacon internship training at St. John Parish in Westminster, Md. After working in the Diocese of Charleston this summer,  Whitman will return for his final year at St. Mary’s.

Founded in 1791 by the Society of St. Sulpice, a French community of priests dedicated to the formation of parish priests, St. Mary’s Seminary and University is the first Roman Catholic seminary in the United States.
