COLUMBIA — Sister Judith Ann Karam, president and chief executive officer of Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals, received the 2006 Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Hospital Association June 12.
Sister Judith Ann also serves as president and CEO of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine Health System (CSA Health System) in Cleveland, Ohio.
According to a Providence Hospital press release, the honor recognizes senior executives of Ohio Hospital Association member organizations for outstanding leadership. Sister Judith Ann was named to head Providence Hospitals in May and has led CSA Health System since 1999. CSA Health System oversees Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals and other sponsored ministries of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine in Ohio and South Carolina, including three additional hospitals, two elder care facilities, numerous health, human service and education-related services and four charitable foundations with assets exceeding $200 million.
Her nomination cited her achievements demonstrating innovation, leadership and dedication to the community. She oversaw the establishment in 1996 of three Sisters of Charity Foundations in South Carolina and Ohio that have awarded millions in grants to address root causes of poverty.
