Sister Johnson dies at 81

GREENVILLE — Sister Mary Francis Johnson, a Sister of St. Clare, died June 28 at the age of 81. The funeral Mass was celebrated July 1 at the Monastery of St. Clare chapel. Burial was in the monastery cemetery.

Sister Johnson was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Lafayette, Ind., the daughter of the late Otis L. and Gladys Mary Vaughn Johnson. She attended St. Francis College and received her nursing degree from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Lafayette. She was the operating room supervisor at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., before entering the Monastery of St. Clare in Greenville. She made her simple profession in 1957 and her solemn profession in 1960.

Surviving are her sister, Phyllis Johnson Harrison, two nieces and a nephew.
