Sister Stein dies at 99

SINSINAWA, Wis. — Sister Lenora Stein, OP, a former teacher at St. Martin de Porres School in Columbia, S.C., died at St. Dominic Villa Oct. 6. The funeral Mass was celebrated in Queen of the Rosary Chapel Oct. 10. Burial was in the motherhouse cemetery.

Sister Stein was born June 12, 1906, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of the late Leo Joseph and Anna Mary Michels Stein. Sister Stein made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican on Jan. 2, 1933, and her final profession on Aug. 5, 1936. She was a primary and elementary school teacher from 1954-1976, and taught at schools in Wisconsin and Illinois. She taught at St. Martin de Porres School from 1946-1949.

Sister Stein was a former postmaster of the Sinsinawa Post Office and was business officer at the motherhouse for 16 years. She lived in community at the motherhouse until 2001, when she moved to St. Dominic Villa.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.
