ASTON, Pa.— Sister Teresiana Miller, OSF, died Aug. 26 at Assisi House in Aston. She was 94, and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 72 years.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 1 at Assisi House. Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
Sister Teresiana was born Agnes Irma Miller in Baltimore, Md. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Parish and a graduate of St. Elizabeth Commercial School. Following her graduation she worked as a stenographer and assistant bookkeeper at the Baltimore Tube Company. In 1932 she entered the Sisters of St. Francis. Her older sister, Sister Basilia Miller (now deceased), was already a member, and her younger sister, Sister Ann Mercedes Miller, later joined the congregation.
Sister Teresiana earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Mt. St. Mary College in Emmitsburg, Md., and a master’s in administration from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She ministered in elementary education as a teacher and principal, primarily in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and the Archdiocese of Washington. She served as principal of Our Lady of Peace School in North Augusta, S.C., from 1956-1962.
From 1971-1974 she served as provincial coordinator of education for the Sisters of St. Francis. She served as assistant superintendent of schools for the Archdiocese of Baltimore from 1974-1981.
Sister Teresiana’s final years were spent in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, serving in prayer ministry at Assisi House in Aston.
Sister Teresiana is survived by her sister, Sister Ann Mercedes Miller of Aston; nieces and nephews; and her Franciscan family.
