ATLANTA, Ga. — The 65th Serra International Convention will be Aug. 9-12 at the Hilton Atlanta. The theme is “Faith of the Family: Foundation of Vocations.”
Serra International is a nonprofit Catholic organization which promotes vocations to the priesthood and consecrated religious life. Serra Clubs have been chartered in 44 different countries since the organization began in Seattle in 1935.
The convention will feature Catholic speakers, including several television personalities from EWTN, cardinals from Canada, Mexico and the United States, and separate tracks for clergy and lay people. In the past, Serra conventions have been open only to Serrans, but the convention committee chose to open the event to all this year.
“We wanted to change the focus this year and open our convention to any attendees who have an interest in religious vocations ministry,” said Joseph Krygiel, convention co-chair, in a press release.
Featured speakers include Serra International president Robert T. Wright; Steve Ray, author and host of “The Footprints of God: The Story of Salvation From Abraham to Augustine”; Dr. Marcellino D’Ambrosio, popular Catholic author and teacher; and Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory.
An optional dinner at the Georgia Aquarium will feature Raymond Arroyo, author, journalist and host of EWTN’s international news magazine, “The World Over Live.”
Other scheduled speakers are: Cardinal Marc Ouellet, archbishop of Quebec and primate of Canada; Cardinal Juan Sandoval, archbishop of Guadalajara, Mexico; Jeff Cavins, founding host of EWTN’s popular show “My Life on the Rock”; Sister Catherine Marie Hopkins, OP, vocations director of the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia; Cardinal Justin Rigali, archbishop of Philadelphia; and Nashville Bishop David Choby.
