GREENVILLE—St. Joseph’s Catholic School’s varsity girls’ cross-country team recently captured first place in the Greenville County Cross-Country Championships from among eleven public and private schools with runners in the tournament.
At the awards ceremony, seniors Emily Coggins and Katie Sanders, and junior Katie Lynam were named to the All-County Team. Their coach is Marie Kernell. Emily and Katie S. both attend St. Mary Magdalene Church in Simpsonville, Katie L. goes to Our Lady of the Rosary in Greenville, and Kernell worships at St. Mary in Greenville.
On Oct. 31, both the boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams repeated for the S.C. Independent School Association 3A State Title in Columbia. It is the third consecutive year the boys have won the state title and the second consecutive year for the girls. Emily Coggins and Josh Benore each won top individual honors and placed first in their races. They beat out 81 other runners from 12 schools.
