COLUMBIA—Yvonne Orr, former principal of Charleston Catholic School, is the new chair of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina board of directors for 2010.
The other members are Mike McCabe, vice chair; Dee Dee Chewning, secretary; and Thomas Otis, treasurer.
Orr joined the board in 2006 and became vice chair in 2009. She has a long history working in education, including Burke High School, the Charleston County School District, Morris College, and The Citadel, according to a press release for the foundation. She was principal of Charleston Catholic School from 2000 to 2006. She received a bachelor’s degree from S.C. State College and a master’s in education from The Citadel.
She serves as youth coordinator of the Junior Daughters of the Knights of Peter Claver, president of St. Patrick parish council, is an extraordinary minister of holy Communion, and a former co-chair of the Mayor’s Commission for Children, Youth and Families. She is a member of the National Education Association, S.C. Education Association, Trident Urban League’s Speakers Bureau and The Lions Club.
