Ursuline Sisters Vera Gardner and Dolora Stueve die

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Ursuline Sister Vera Gardner died Jan. 7 at Mercy Sacred Heart Village in Louisville, Ky. She was 87.

Sister Vera, formerly known as Sister Evangelista, entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1941. She served in the Diocese of Charleston, S.C., for 26 years, where she worked as a teacher, counselor and administrator at Cardinal Newman High School in Columbia.

She taught English from 1965 to 1970, when she took on the role of assistant principal. She remained at the high school until 1985 and returned in 1992 as a counselor.

In 1999, Sister Vera moved to Louisville where she served out her ministries.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews and her Ursuline community.

Ursuline Sister Dolora Stueve died Jan. 8 at Marian Home, also in Louisville. She was 97.

Sister Dolora entered the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1936. She taught music at St. Joseph Church in Columbia, S.C., from 1962 to 1968.

Her service also took her to schools in Louisville; Evansville, Ind.; Camden, Miss.; and Omaha, Neb.

She lived out her ministry in prayer at Marian Home.

She is survived by her sisters Mary Stueve and Ruth Leach, nieces and nephews, and her Ursuline family.
