The Diocese of Charleston’s Catholic Schools Office launched its billboard campaign Jan. 25 in three cities. Each board depicts the slogan — Good grades are just the beginning — followed by the Web address www.experiencetheextraordinary.org.

The Web site reiterates the mission statement, lists the five core values of Catholic education, and contains a state map with hot links to each of the 32 schools.

“The idea is to get people to visit the schools’ Web sites,” said Sister Julia Hutchison, superintendent. “We want to create awareness that the state of South Carolina is indeed blessed to have such wonderful Catholic schools.”

Angela McLaughlin, consultant, said each billboard will be up for at least a month. They are located in Columbia on I-26 near St. Andrews Road, Greenville on I-85 near Pelham, and Charleston on I-26 near Montague Avenue.

In addition to outdoor advertising, the campaign will also feature public service announcements on the radio from schools in the Coastal, Midlands and Upstate deaneries.

“It’s free, so it’s a wonderful promotional tool for all the schools,” McLaughlin said.

At the end of each 30-second spot, listeners will be reminded of the slogan and asked to visit the Web site. Sister Julia said the goal is to increase enrollment at each school to near capacity.
