Time for play on reading day
BLUFFTON—St. Gregory the Great School celebrated Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a variety of events and a special poem to commemorate the occasion:
They were here, they were there, they were everywhere!
St. Gregory the Great was the choice, none were spared.
Thing 1 and Thing 2, mischievous through and through,
visited first to the school and disturbed quite a few.
A most holy Cat in the Hat
(Principal Sister Canice, beat that!)
caused ruckus galore, a little bit and then some more!
Dr. Seuss’ birthday we celebrate — we had so much fun, it was just great!!
Summerville builds top bridges
SUMMERVILLE—The junior high students from Summerville Catholic School took home a number of awards from the annual bridge competition held recently at The Citadel in Charleston. The fair exposes Lowcountry youth to fundamental math and science principles vital to understanding engineering.
Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade worked individually or in groups to create bridges out of PopsicleTM sticks. Summerville took first place for best structural design, architectural design, most original design, most constructible and best craftsmanship. The school won 16 awards at the competition.
Athletes, chess champ earn honors
GREENVILLE—Brad and Josh Benore, seniors at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, were signed to run cross-country at Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina. The brothers ran cross-country all four years and were named team captains this year.
Brad was named to the High School Sports Report All-State Team. Josh was named the S.C. Independent School Association 2009 Cross-Country Individual State Champion and the High School Sports Report Runner of the Year. They are the sons of David and Sheri Benore of Simpsonville and members of St. Mary Church.
Luke Lepak was named the Eighth Grade Middle School Champion at the S.C. Chess Association 2010 Scholastic Championships held March 6 in Columbia. Nearly 90 students from around the state participated. Luke is the son of Greg and Mary Anne Lepak of Greenville. He attends St. Mary and is a student at St. Joseph’s school.
