Sister Edward Paul Colliton, former principal of Our Lady of Peace School, dies

ASTON, Penn.—Franciscan Sister Edward Paul Colliton died May 19 in Assisi House where she served in prayer ministry since 2002. She was 98.

Franciscan Sister Edward Paul Colliton died May 19 in Assisi House where she served in prayer ministry since 2002. She was 98.All services were held in Assisi House. Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. She was born Magdalena Bernice Colliton in Philadelphia. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Parish and a graduate of St. Elizabeth Commercial High School. She was a stenographer for Charles C. Parks.

Sister Edward Paul entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in 1931 and professed her first vows in 1934. She
went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Mount St. Mary University in Emmitsburg, Md., and a master’s in education from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Sister Edward Paul ministered in the Archdiocese of Washington from 1933 to 1959 as a teacher and principal. From 1959 to 1965 she was a principal in the Diocese of Trenton, N.J., and from 1965 to 1971 in the Diocese of Wilmington.

The sister spent 21 years as a principal for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Then from 1974 to 1984 she served the Diocese of Charleston, S.C., as principal of Our Lady of Peace School in North Augusta, and in parish ministry at St. Edward Church. From 1984 to 2002 she lived at St. Anthony Convent and volunteered in the parish.

Sister Edward Paul is survived by nieces, nephews and her Franciscan family.
