Guglielmone received an outstanding achievement award from the National Italian American Foundation at a reception Oct. 11 at the Harbour Club.

“Bishop Guglielmone is a people’s priest, a great homilist and a down-to-earth, approachable man,” said Jim Weiskircher, chairman of the diocesan committee on Scouting.

The award honored the bishop’s leadership and his commitment to the Boy Scouts since 1978. Bishop Guglielmone was the Vatican’s global liaison to Scouting programs and chaplain of the International Catholic Conference on Scouting.

“My parents told me and my two brothers to contribute to our country. That’s what the U.S. is all about,” Bishop Guglielmone said.

The NIAF works to promote the heritage of Americans of Italian descent. The event’s main sponsor was the Consulate of Italy.
