Franciscan Sister Kathleen Carroll dies at age 83

ASTON, Pa.—Sister Kathleen Frances Carroll, OSF, formerly Sister M. Brian, died in Assisi House on Dec. 5.

She was 83 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 58 years. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Dec. 10 at Assisi House. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston.

Sister Kathleen Frances Carroll, OSFSister Kathleen was born in Boston, Mass., where she was a member of St. Joseph Church. She entered the congregation in 1949 and professed her first vows in 1952. She earned a bachelor’s in education from Mount St. Mary University in Emmitsburg.

She worked primarily in elementary education teaching at schools in Maryland, Delaware and North Carolina. She lived in South Carolina from 1965 to 1966 and taught at St. Paul School in Spartanburg.

Sister Kathleen served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 24 years. She worked at Neumann University, assisted in the congregation’s art studio and volunteered at Assisi House. In 1999 she became a resident of Assisi House and served in prayer ministry until her death.

Sister Kathleen is survived by her brother, Father Alban Carroll, SA; her sister, Mary MacKay, and her Franciscan family.
