Bishop names Father Teofilo Trujillo as new vicar of Hispanic ministry

CHARLESTON—Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone announced several appointments Nov. 10, including a new vicar for Hispanic ministry.

The bishop appointed Father Teofilo Trujillo, pastor of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Simpsonville, as vicar for Hispanic ministry in the Diocese of Charleston, effective Nov. 8. Father Trujillo succeeds the late Father Filemón Juya, who died of cancer in June.

He also announced that Father Jay Scott Newman, JCL, VF, pastor of St. Mary Church in Greenville, has been elected dean of the Piedmont Deanery.

He succeeds Msgr. Steven L. Brovey, who is now rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and administrator of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Charleston.

Father Johnbosco Duraisamy, from the Diocese of Cuddapah, India, was appointed as parochial vicar of Stella Maris Church on Sullivan’s Island effective Oct. 11.

Father Maximino E. Tria Jr., from the Archdiocese of Caceres, Philippines, was assigned as parochial vicar of St. Mary Help of Christians Church in Aiken, effective Oct. 19.

Effective Nov. 7, Father Venance Max Kishe from the Diocese of Mandeville, Jamaica, was appointed as parochial vicar of Blessed Sacrament Church in Charleston and St. John Church in North Charleston.

Father Christopher Smith, who is studying at the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, will become the administrator of Prince of Peace Church in Taylors effective Dec. 15.
