Good Shepherd moves from mission to church

MCCORMICK—Good Shepherd Mission in McCormick is now officially a church. Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone announced the parish’s canonical status in a decree released Dec. 20.

“Such growth can only be achieved by the Grace of the Holy Spirit and the good will of the parishioners,” the bishop stated in the decree.

Good Shepherd was a mission of Sacred Heart Church in Abbeville and listed 160 households in its membership. Father Allam Marreddy is the administrator of both.

The new parish’s territory encompasses all of McCormick County which is located in the northwestern part of the state. Sacred Heart Church retains the parish territory comprised of Abbeville County.
