Welcome to the Year of Faith

From Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone

Welcome my brothers and sisters in Christ,

In his Apostolic Letter, Porte Fidei, Pope Benedict XVI has called Catholics to live out their baptismal call in a Year of Faith from Oct. 11, 2012, to Nov. 24, 2013.

In his letter, the Holy Father wrote: “The ‘door of faith’ (Acts 14:27) is always open for us, ushering us into the life of communion with God and offering entry into his Church. It is possible to cross that threshold when the word of God is proclaimed and the heart allows itself to be shaped by transforming grace. To enter through that door is to set out on a journey that lasts a lifetime. Rediscover your faith and share it with the people around you .”

During this journey, we must seek to experience a conversion, meaning we are to rediscover what we truly believe and to become even closer to Jesus Christ. We can do this by embracing The New Evangelization — receive the sacraments, especially Reconciliation and Holy Communion; actively pray with our family and friends; studying the Gospel and the Catechism of the Catholic Church; and allowing our Christianity to shine through in every moment.

The Year of Faith is a mandate for hope. All that we do in this life is in preparation for eternity, in an effort to receive salvation. I invite you now to shake off the weariness of this world, get up and join the people of faith around the world in this journey of discovery led by our savior Jesus Christ.
