My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
With the publication of our annual Financial Report, I offer you an accounting of the Diocese of Charleston’s financial operations. Once again, this information shows the generosity and support of South Carolina’s faithful, even in a struggling economy and a volatile stock market.
This year we have seen the amounts expended on program services increase to meet the needs of our ministries. As baptized Catholics, we must “profess the faith we have received from God through the Church and participate in the apostolic and missionary activity of the People of God” (CCC, no. 1270). We, the Diocese of Charleston, have been able to do much of this work because of your generosity to the Bishop’s Stewardship Appeal, which exceeded the $2.5 million goal in 2011.
And now, the 2012 appeal will surpass the $2.75 million goal. This will allow for additional funding of our many programs, such as seminarian formation, Catholic education through tuition assistance, Hispanic Ministry, outreach to those most in need, and other areas where we are called to serve God through the mission of the Church.
I am so grateful for the good people of South Carolina. Please continue to pray for the success of our efforts and be assured of my prayers for all of you.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
+Most Rev. Robert E. Guglielmone
Bishop of Charleston
