COLUMBIA—Bishop England clinched their quest for a second straight football title recently, shutting out Abbeville 21-0 to claim the Class AA Division II state championship.
Considered underdogs once again, the Battling Bishops proved their skill and determination in the opening minutes of the game, scoring a touchdown in just 79 seconds, while many fans were still finding their seats.
After that, the Charleston team never looked back.
Bishop England finished the season with a 13-1 record, and seems to be starting a tradition of shut-outs.
The football program earned its first championship last year against Central in a 10-0 victory.
