Holy Ghost Father Phillip Howard dies at age 67

NEW YORK— Congregation of the Holy Spirit Father Phillip R. Howard, former pastor of St. Patrick Church in Charleston, S.C., died Dec. 4. He was 67.
The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Church in Harlem on Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. The burial will be at the Spiritan community cemetery in Bensalem, Penn.
Father Howard was born May 26, 1945. He was professed into the Congregation of the Holy Spirit on Sept. 8, 1968, and ordained on March 19, 1979.
His ministry included churches in Trinidad and Asuncion, Paraguay. In the United States, he served at parishes including St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bay City, Mich., from 1991-1992, St. Patrick in Charleston from 1992-1995, and St. Mary Magdalene in Chicago from 1995-1998.
He travelled to Toronto, Canada, in 1998, where he ministered until 2002.
He then was assigned to St. Benedict the Abbot and St. Joseph’s in Houston, Texas, from 2002-2005; Our Lady of the Valley in Hemet from 2005-2011: and, since May 2011, as pastor of St. Mark’s in Harlem.
He is survived by his sisters, Annette Howard, Edith Whittier and Yvette Rabgir.
