Our Lady of Peace evangelization team steps up the process

NORTH AUGUSTA—ŠDuring the Year of Faith, Our Lady of Peace Church evangelization team made an effort to expand the spiritual growth of its parish. They were aided by a “Teach All Nations” grant from the Koch Foundation that was used to expand and diversify the church library.

The parish has installed a large flat screen TV, and more than 150 DVDs and 300 books for all ages are available. The media is also provided in Spanish to serve the needs and evangelization efforts of the Hispanic community.

A Promethean “Smart Board” was also provided to the school for interactive teaching in every classroom. The new additions to the library and school provided a way for parishioners to enjoy their faith and spirituality and expand their knowledge and understanding of it.

Families are encouraged to use the new equipment to watch a film together, and people can check out books on topics ranging from personal spiritual growth to living Catholic values appropriate to their age and position on their faith journey.

Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone blessed the “visual library” during a visit on Nov. 17 and commended the parish for its efforts and activities.

Recycle for charity a success at St. John Neumann

COLUMBIA—€St. John Neumann Church held a “Recycle for Charity” event Nov. 19 with the goal of raising money and collecting much-needed supplies for the Pawmetto Lifeline, Lions Club, Oliver Gospel Mission, Restore and Sister Care.

Seventeen boxes of books covering a variety of topics were sold to benefit the Stephen Shellenburg Scholarship Fund at St. John Neumann School. The books were donated from Father Frederick Masad’s collection and earned $1,057 for the aforementioned scholarship fund.

Over two days, the Friends of the Earth Ministry, hosts of this event, also accepted monetary donations and offered homemade and donated jewelry in exchange as thank you gifts, collecting a total of $862 for the aforementioned charities.
