St. Anthony helps Philippines, earns scholarship award
GREENVILLE—The student art club at St. Anthony of Padua sold their handcrafted star ornaments to help raise money for the relief effort in the Philippines. The children created more than 100 stars, raising $400 to help the victims of Typhoon Yolanda, which struck the island nation in early November. Also, the school received Greenville’s Indie Craft Parade annual scholarship award, which partners students in the after-school arts club with Indie Parade artists for demonstrations and enrichment. The program will focus on ways to incorporate organic and found objects in their artwork.
Nativity wins costume contest
JAMES ISLAND—Nativity School’s running club participated in the 23rd annual Reindeer Run and entered the group costume contest, which they won. The runners put the whole Nativity scene into jogging shoes, with students dressed as Joseph, the wise men bearing gifts, shepherds with their crooks, a donkey, the star of Bethlehem, and of course Mary, who carried baby Jesus.
