Home Works’ new director
COLUMBIA—The Home Works of America board of directors announced recently that James “Jim” Powell is their new executive director of the home repair ministry. Hank Chardos, the founder and former executive director, will continue to help in programs. Powell launched and has served as the pastor of West Valley Presbyterian Church in Pennsylvania since 2007, where he served as preacher, counselor, and manager. Anne Weston, board chair, said the organization is expanding thanks to Chardos’ work plus that of over 30,000 volunteers and donors who have supported them since 1996. The ministry started helping people in the Johns Island area, but now offers aid in North Carolina, Georgia and Peru.
