Ursuline Sister Emily Peetz, former St. Joseph principal, dies at 89

LOUISVILLE , KY.—Ursuline Sister Emily Peetz died Jan. 2 at the University of Louisville Hospital. She was 89.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 8 in the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville motherhouse chapel and burial was in St. Michael Cemetery.

Sister Emily was born in Sidney, Neb., and entered the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1943. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ursuline College in Louisville, and a Master of Arts degree from Creighton University in Omaha.

She served as principal of St. Joseph School in Columbia, S.C., from 1962-1964. She also served at schools in Louisville; Cumberland, Md.; Jackson, Miss.; and Omaha. She was a parish coordinator in St. Cloud, Minn.

From 1998 to 2012, Sister Emily volunteered in Louisville at Parkway Medical Center, Alliant Health Systems, the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, University of Louisville Hospital, Norton Pavilion, Kosair Children’s Hospital, Norton Children’s Hospital and at the Louisville International Airport.

She is survived by her sister Katharine Moore, sister-in-law Connie Mangold, nieces and nephews, and her Ursuline community.
