BE athletes earn scholarships
CHARLESTON—Nick Shiver, a senior at Bishop England, earned a coveted spot at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he will play football. Other scholarships were awarded to Michelle Boykin from Hillsdale College in Michigan for basketball, and Matthew Adams from the University of Alabama for swimming.
Divine Redeemer tops at archery/Lawrence nets state free throw title
HANAHAN—Divine Redeemer’s archery team took the team trophy for highest points at the South Carolina Independent School Association’s regional competition held at Faith Christian School in Summerville recently. Also during the archery contest, James Busche, seventh grade, won as highest male scorer in the middle school division. In basketball, Madaline Lawrence, a sixth-grader at Divine Redeemer, won the state title in her age bracket at the Knights of Columbus Basketball Free Throw state contest.
JPII, St. Joe win quiz bowl
RIDGELAND/GREENVILLE—The middle school quiz teams at John Paul II and St. Joseph’s Catholic schools each won their regional division of the South Carolina Independent School Association’s Quiz Bowl and will advance to the state championship in April. Members of the JPII team include Ava Slusne, Danika Dingus, Meaghan Lyons, Nick Myhre, Parker Kenyon and Zoe Keller. St. Joe’s team includes Lucas Baumgarten, Mary Kate Griffin, Jack Malone-Grippe, Luke Cunniffe, Caroline Curran, and Jackson Soapes.
