Ordination of Deacon Heredia
CHARLESTON—Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone will ordain Deacon Javier Heredia to the priesthood on May 30 at 6 p.m. in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, located at 120 Broad St. All are welcome to attend.

Father Wagner celebrates 65th
SEABROOK ISLAND—Father Leon Wagner recently celebrated his 65th anniversary to the priesthood. The retired priest currently assists Msgr. Charles Rowland, pastor of Holy Spirit Church on Johns Island.

Ordained on May 7, 1949, by Cardinal Samuel Stritch at St. Joseph’s Church in Wilmet, Ill., Father Wagner served in six parishes in the Diocese of Chicago. He spent 17 years of his priestly ministry at St. Mary Church in Riverside, Ill.

Upon his retirement, he moved to Seabrook and has served many parishes in the Charleston area, from Bonneau to Edisto.

Golf with the Saints tournament
CHARLESTON—Charleston Catholic School will hold its fifth annual Golf with the Saints tournament on June 2 at 2 p.m. at the Ocean Winds Course on Seabrook Island. A pig pickin’ sponsored by Rosebank Farms and Irvin Vineyard will begin at noon, prior to the tournament’s shotgun start. Cost: $100 per player, includes lunch and cart. BEHS reunions for 1974 and 1984

Free lunch/indoor yard sale
YORK—Divine Saviour Church, 232 Herndon Ave., will serve a free lunch on May 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of a monthly outreach. Also, the women of Divine Saviour will hold their annual indoor yard sale on May 31 from 7 a.m. to noon in the parish center. Big Band Night

Sister Loretta’s jubilee
SINSINAWA, WIS.—Dominican Sister Loretta Zemaitis will celebrate her 70th jubilee on June 8 with a Mass in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Mound, along with eight other Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters. Her religious name was Sister Mary Nathan. She taught adult religious education and served as the director of religious education at St. Martin de Porres Church in Columbia, S.C, from 1980-1983.
