The Diocese of Charleston had four students named as 2017 National Merit Semifinalists.
They are Lee Khoury, a senior at Cardinal Newman School in Columbia; and Jasmine Adams, Elizabeth Ludlum, and Brian Privett, all from Bishop England High School in Charleston. The nationwide pool of semifinalists is 16,000 students, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.
Also, a number of students from the diocese were named commended students in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Those students are Nicholas Militello from Cardinal Newman; David Lewis and Sara Slaughter from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Greenville; and John Borkowski (not pictured), Connor Burke and Nick DiBona from Bishop England. Commended students rank among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
