COLUMBIA – The sixth-grade “elves” at St. John Neumann School prepared for the Dec. 6 feast of St. Nicholas by decorating the night before.
The next morning, all the students arrive to a school filled with Christmas ornaments, trees, wreaths, and gifts from St. Nicholas.
Barbara Cole, principal, traditionally gives each sixth-grader a thank-you pair of slippers that she knits especially for them. This year, there was a pair for every child, teacher, and even for many parent volunteers. In total, Cole made approximately 400 slippers. The principal has announced her retirement at the end of the 2016- 17 school year, and said this was a special way for her to give to the SJN community.
