40 Days for Life opens with prayer

GREENVILLE—The Kick-off Rally of 40 Days for Life was held March 4 at the Greenville Women’s Clinic. Pro-life advocates from the Upstate, representing different religions and nationalities, prayed and sang. Guest speakers, including Pastor Judy Brooks (pictured above), the Benedict family, and Darren Swartzendruber, all gave inspiring talks. The “For Life Praise Band” performed, led by Pastor Mark Wills of Pastors for Life and his wife, Robin.

Swartzendruber, from “Sidewalk Advocates for Life”, spoke about the need to reach out with love to the women approaching the abortion center. Deanery representative Valerie Baronkin offered a prayer to end funding of Planned Parenthood and provided 40 Days for Life statistics.

Since 2007, 4,535 campaigns in 40 nations and 675 cities have taken place resulting in 12,668 lives being saved from abortion, Baronkin said. Also, 143 abortion workers have left the industry and 83 abortion facilities have closed, she said.

Ingrid Ireland, the event coordinator, urged people to join the effort.

“It is that peaceful, prayerful presence that turns hearts. It is also a tremendous witness to those driving by on busy Grove Road of the atrocity taking place,” she said.
