SPARKILL, N.Y.—Dominican Sister Patricia Keating died on April 27 in Siena Hall. She was 74.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 2 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Sparkill. Interment was in St. Agnes Cemetery.
She was born in The Bronx, N.Y., on Nov. 10, 1942, a daughter of Patrick and Abina Barry Keating. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on Sept. 8, 1960, and received the name Sister Kevin Michael. She professed her first vows in 1962 and her final vows in 1967.
Sister Pat, as she was known, received a bachelor’s in education from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill in 1965, and a master’s in urban affairs from St. Louis University in Missouri in 1978.
She served in the Archdiocese of New York as a teacher at St. Anthony School in Nanuet (1962-1965). In 1965, Sister Pat moved to St. Louis and taught at the St. Mark’s/de Porres School (1965-1980), Bishop Healy School (1980-1981), and Holy Guardian Angels School, where she served as principal (1981-1984).
In 1984, Sister Pat was elected to congregational leadership and served as a member of the executive team and was then elected president. She served two four-year terms from 1988-1996.
From 1997-2005, Sister Pat served as regional coordinator for Catholic Charities and vicar for religious in the Diocese of Charleston, S.C. She also served as director of Neighborhood House until 2011. She continued in ministry in Charleston until returning to the Dominican Convent in 2016.
Sister Pat is survived by her brother Thomas, and several nieces and nephews.
