ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.—The Catholic Miscellany received five awards during the Catholic Media Convention held June 18-21. The annual competition is sponsored by the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada, and the awards were presented June 21.

Caroline Lindsey, graphic designer, received four awards, including first place for Best Use of Graphics – Best Chart or Information Graphic for the flowchart on “How should I receive communion?” with Christina Lee Knauss.

Lindsey also earned three awards for Best Layout of Article or Column, including second place for “Earth Day is every day” with Amy Wise Taylor, third place for “Discovering the heart of Kolkata” with diocesan seminarian Will Frei, and honorable mention for “To make an impact, give” with Amy Wise Taylor.

Christina Lee Knauss, staff writer, also received a third place award for Best Coverage – Disaster or Crises for the articles “Suffering rises along with water levels in the Pee Dee, Horry County”, “Catholic Charities remains in action after flood”, and “Pregnant flood victim faces adversity with hope”, which recounted the prolonged effects of flooding in the wake of Hurricane Florence in 2018.

The Miscellany is the official newspaper of the Diocese of Charleston and is responsible for documenting the major news and events of the Church in the state of South Carolina. It was the first Catholic newspaper in the United States founded by Bishop John England in 1822.
