BEAUFORT—Students, teachers and community members participated in a celebration of life at St. Peter Church and School on Jan. 22.

Children from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade gathered outside to pray the rosary and offer a public stand for life, complete with handmade signs. After the rosary, each child was given a white rose symbolizing purity to place at the feet of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Father Andrew Trapp, pastor of St. Peter, celebrated Mass and spoke to the students.

The celebration was organized by Christie Mauritz, a second-grade teacher at the school. Mauritz said she has experienced the loss of a child on a personal level and felt that God called her to be involved in the pro-life movement.
