Father Jeffrey Kirby, writes book exploring Christianity’s oldest prayer

INDIAN LAND, SC—Father Jeffrey Kirby, pastor of Our Lady of Grace Church, has written a new book on the Lord’s Prayer. “Thy Kingdom Come: Living the Lord’s Prayer in Everyday Life” is published by Saint Benedict Press/TAN Books.

The book plumbs the depths of the Lord’s prayer, highlighting a practical application in everyday life for readers, according to a press release.

By dissecting the traditional seven tenets of the Lord’s Prayer, Thy Kingdom Come: Living the Lord’s Prayer in Everyday Life reveals the wisdom of Christianity’s oldest prayer and shows how it can be an invaluable help in moral decision-making and in the spiritual life.

In particular, the book addresses the place of God’s Fatherly care in the midst of tragedy and evil, such as worldwide pandemics. The book answers many cultural challenges surrounding the questions of a father’s place in the world. The book also stresses the Eucharistic overtones contained in the Prayer and its summons for mercy in the hearts of all people.

Endorsements for the book were given by Mary Ann Glendon, ambassador; Father Michael Gaitley, MIC, spiritual writer; and Scott Hahn, PhD., apologist and theologian, of the Saint Paul Center for Biblical Theology.

“Father Kirby offers solid and practical guidance for contemplating and living each of the seven petitions of the Lord’s Prayer,” Hahn’s endorsement stated. “Along the way, he helps us to discover how to draw closer to God through the Beatitudes, virtues, gifts of the Spirit etc. His exciting ‘school of discipleship’ is all about making deep connections. Highly recommended!”

Father Kirby holds a doctorate in moral theology from Holy Cross University in Rome. He is an adjunct professor of theology at Belmont Abbey College. His other books, include “Kingdom of Happiness: Living the Beatitudes in Everyday Life” and “Lord, Teach Us to Pray: A Guide to the Spiritual Life and Christian Discipleship.” He has been the administrator and pastor of Our Lady of Grace Church since 2016.
