COLUMBIA—The Catholic Miscellany won four awards from the South Carolina Press Association. The awards were announced March 19 at the SCPA annual meeting held at The Marriott and presented by the Columbia Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Alison Blanchet won first place in editorial/op-ed column for “The grass is always greener at the Joneses.” Amy Wise Taylor won first place in faith reporting for her article on “Faith & Fungi” about mushroom production at Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner.
Deirdre Mays won third place for her photograph of Brother John Corrigan in the article “Faith & Fungi” (shown above); and freelance photojournalist Mic Smith won honorable mention for his photo of mourners paying their respects at the memorial in front of Emanuel AME Church in Charleston.
The annual contest recognizes excellence in print and digital journalism. It was judged this year by SCPA officials and the Virginia Press Association. The Miscellany is an associate member of the S.C. Press Association.
