Campus ministry gets new associate director

CHARLESTON — Jane M. LaMarche has been hired as the new director of Catholic Campus Ministry at the College of Charleston and  as associate director of campus ministry for the Diocese of Charleston.

She is the former director of campus ministry for the Archdiocese of Boston, a co-director of Catholic campus ministry at Boston University and former director of the Edmundite Mission Corps, a service program for young college graduates in Selma, Ala., and New Orleans.

LaMarche holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from the School of Theology at Boston University, a Master of Sacred Theology from Boston University, a Master of Education from the University of Vermont and a Bachelor of Arts from St. Michael’s College in Vermont.

LaMarche said she plans to continue to build the campus ministry program initiated by the former director, Sister Rita Schroeder, a Sister of Notre Dame, at the College of Charleston.

Her goals include a focus on increasing participating in service and stewardship from the 1200 self-identified Catholic students at the College of Charleston and to provide spiritual support through activities, events and worship opportunities that will enrich the student faith.

As associate director of campus ministry for the diocese, LaMarche said she looks forward to working with campus ministers throughout the state to provide the best possible networking for resources and opportunities for Catholic students.

She also plans to hold statewide retreats, leadership training and social justice events.
