Sister Karee Finnegan dies at 76

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Sister Karee Finnegan, 76, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of our Lady of Lourdes, died Aug. 30 at Assisi Heights in Rochester.

She was an educator and pastoral minister, and served as a pastoral associate in the Diocese of Charleston, S.C., at Precious Blood of Christ in Pawley’s Island, St. Ann in Kingstree and St. Peter in Cheraw.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 2 at Assisi Heights.

Born Irene Lucy Finnegan on Aug. 13, 1930, in St. Paul, Minn., Sister Karee entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1948 and made her profession of vows in 1951. She served as a teacher and principal at a number of schools in Minnesota, in addition to her work in South Carolina. Sister Karee retired to Assisi Heights in 1999.

She is survived by a brother, George Finnegan of Austin, Minn.; a sister, Ida Mae Burns of Minneapolis; and her Franciscan community.
