SIMPSONVILLE — While studying in Rome, Father Jeffrey Kirby is taking part in a locally produced radio series through Mediatrix Radio.
“Pathways to Rome,” features the priest, a married woman and a married man, both with children. Father Kirby, who gave tours of the Vatican while studying in Rome, will introduce his experiences in the Holy City during each hour-long program. Then the three hosts will discuss related issues from their own perspectives.
Father Kirby returned to Italy in September to complete a licentiate in moral theology, and will report from cathedrals and historic places, conduct interviews and cover events such as the canonization of Blessed Father Damien de Veuster of Molokai.
Co-stars Kathy Kerfoot and Atticus “Gus” Killough will provide input from the Mediatrix Radio studio in Greer, according to a press release.
Though they began as novices, the group has already recorded five shows and are becoming broadcast savvy.
“We spent nearly three hours doing the first one,” Kerfoot said. “Now we are better prepared and things are going more smoothly.”
The pre-recorded shows will be broadcast over the internet at www.catholicradioinsc.com and weekly from 5-6 p.m. on WCKI 1300 AM in the Upstate, and on WQIZ 810 AM in the Lowcountry.
“This gives us a unique perspective to discuss diverse opinions about life in the church,” Father Kirby said. “As Catholics, we are citizens of the City of God and this program will give us the chance to learn more about what’s going on in the worldwide church. Our audio tour of Rome will be an apologetics adventure.”
