Rausch to speak at 2011 Newman Lecture

ROCK HILL—Father John S. Rausch, director of the Catholic Committee on Appalachia, will speak on sustainability and the environment during the 31st Annual Cardinal Newman Lecture at The Oratory, 434 Charlotte Ave., on Feb. 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Father Rausch will give two presentations: “Speaking About Sustainability: Bringing Gospel Values About Creation to the Marketplace” and “Let’s Use Symbols to Move Peoples Hearts.”

The Glenmary priest has a 30-year association with the people of Appalachia and is a member of the Commission on Justice and Peace in Stanton, Ky. He was ordained in 1972 and has a Master’s of Divinity from St. Louis University and a Master’s of Economics from Notre Dame University.

The lecture is free. Lunch is brown-bag style and beverages will be provided.
