COLUMBIA—The 21st annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Community Dinner gave needy, homeless and elderly people in the Midlands a chance to enjoy a hot meal and fellowship Nov. 24. The event is sponsored by St. Peter and First Baptist churches in Columbia.
A sit-down meal was served at the Carolina Coliseum, and volunteers delivered meals to nursing homes, apartment complexes, and other locations. Robert Keeder, event organizer from St. Peter, said 2,200 people in Richland and Lexington counties were fed.
About 250 volunteers from both churches and the community helped with everything from decorating and cooking to meal delivery and cleanup. Musicians from a Columbia church performed gospel music and other volunteers offered crafts and activities for children.
Guests could also pick up free reading glasses and warm clothes donated by area residents.
