St. Peter rocks art show

COLUMBIA—Students at St. Peter School participated in the second annual Art Night at SpringHill Suites to help raise money for their tuition assistance program. Led by Molly Chance, art teacher, 136 works of art were on display. Some of the children’s creations are shown in the photo at right. The school sold calendars with collages of the artwork and raffled a signed Gamecock football.

McLaurin, Herbst earn Eagle rank

CHARLESTON—Micah McLaurin, a parishioner of The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, and Kevin Herbst, a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, both of Boy Scout Troop 79, were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Kevin will attend Brevard University in North Carolina on a football scholarship and Micah will attend Curtis Institute of Music Piano Performance in Philadelphia on a full scholarship.

Caputo’s patriotic essay wins state

CHARLESTON—The Knights of Columbus held its 40th annual Patriotic Essay Contest for eighth grade students in Catholic schools. The three winners are: Caitlin Caputo, first place, Charleston Catholic; Grace Saboe, second place, Blessed Sacrament; and Nicholas DiBona, third place, Charleston Catholic. Caitlin’s essay also won the statewide competition. The contest was sponsored by Assembly 1071.

 

St. Anthony of Padua celebrates field day

GREENVILLE—Children at St. Anthony of Padua (photo at right) were joined by their older comrades from St. Joseph’s Catholic School for a fun day of field day activities.
