St. John Neumann School families were honored during a reception and prayer service recently and the school was awarded funds from the St. Thomas Aquinas Scholarship Funding Organization. Students receiving scholarships led a brief prayer service. Following the service, Barbara Cole, principal, was presented a check by Michael Acquilano, director of the South Carolina Catholic Conference. Cole was joined by Father Sandy McDonald, pastor of St. John Neumann Church, and Curtis Loftis, treasurer of South Carolina.
The St. Thomas Aquinas Scholarship Funding Organization was founded in 2013, with the purpose of awarding scholarships to eligible students to attend Catholic schools in South Carolina. Grants are awarded to families with exceptional needs children and are used to pay for tuition, textbooks, and other costs. The organization’s mission is to “promote education, strengthen families and advance a culture of life by developing the individual gifts of each student while emphasizing the importance of community.”
This year, 20 families from St. John Neumann have received scholarships.
