COLUMBIA—A crane lifts a cross into place at Cardinal Newman School during its recent topping out ceremony. Msgr. Richard Harris, vicar general who is pastor of St. Joseph Church, blessed the cross before it was placed on the building and participants sang “Lift High the Cross”. Students are scheduled to move into the building in January 2016. A “topping out” is a tradition held in the construction of a new building when the last beam is put in place. Usually, numerous elements of construction still remain for the inside of the building.
