COLUMBIA—Sophie Gorrin, an English teacher at Cardinal Newman School, received the 2014-2015 Carolyn McLendon Excellence in Teaching Award.
Each year, James Wilson (Class of ’73) and his wife Cathy make it possible for Cardinal Newman to present a $2,000 award to a member of the faculty: $1,000 is awarded to the faculty member for personal use, and $1,000 is awarded for use in the classroom.
Prospective recipients are nominated by members of the school’s faculty and staff. Nominees should exhibit excellence in teaching practices including dedication to the students, thorough knowledge of their subject area, excellent classroom control, plus noticeable support for policies and procedures, and dedication to the mission and philosophy of the school.
