Sister Sharon Culhane dies at 76

ADRIAN, MICH.—Sister Sharon Culhane, formerly Sister Thomas Clare Culhane, died on July 11 at the Dominican Life Center. She was 76 and in the 57th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held July 20 in St. Catherine Chapel and burial was in the congregation cemetery.

Sister Sharon was born in Rockford, Ill., to Thomas and Clara Holomany Culhane. She graduated from Bishop Muldoon High School in Rockford, Ill.; and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Siena Heights College in Adrian.

Sister Sharon worked in elementary and secondary education for 40 years in Des Moines, Iowa; Mundelein, Chicago, and Wilmette, Ill.

She served in the Diocese of Charleston, S.C., from 1975 to 2012 in the following capacities: Brothers & Sisters, Inc., in Columbia as volunteer coordinator; Daufuskie Child Development Center on Daufuskie Island, as director; teaching in Jasper County School District in Hardeeville; principal of Mary Fields Elementary on Daufuskie Island; teaching in Williamsburg County School District in Kingstree; director of St. Ann’s Center in Kingstree; and director of ecumenical outreach at Sea of Peace House of Prayer in Charleston.

Sister Sharon is survived by several nieces and nephews.
