Spelling bee helps net Healthy Learners program $17,000

GREENWOOD—Friends of Healthy Learners Greenwood raised over $17,000 with an Adult Spelling Bee on Sept. 29 to raise funds for Healthy Learners Greenwood, a Sisters of Charity Health System endeavor. All District 50 schools, local businesses and churches were eligible to have teams. Starting with the first round, 36 teams collaborated and spelled words. Those with a misspelling during the first three rounds had the opportunity to buy back into the game or leave.

The winners were Father Timothy Tebalt, Erin Watts, Joseph Johnson, and Frank Rausch of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Healthy Learners is a faith-based, non-profit that connects children to care so that poor health is not an obstacle to doing well in school. The goal was $15,000, according to Joseph Johnson, Ed.D. pastoral associate at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
