Veterans’ Day is celebrated annually on Nov. 11 because that date marked the end of hostilities — an armistice — in World War I in 1918. The first Armistice Day, now Veterans’ Day, was celebrated in November 1919.
Celebrations were held to honor our veterans around South Carolina. Above, Toby Horn (left), a U.S. Navy veteran who served three tours in Vietnam, and his brother, George Horn, a U.S. Marine who served in active duty between the Korean and Vietnam Wars, watch the Veterans’ Day Parade held in Charleston on Nov. 7.
