Adrian Dominican Sister Patricia Cecile Slattery dies at 87

ADRIAN, MICH.—Sister Patricia Cecile Slattery, formerly known as Patricia Jean Slattery, died on April 17 at the Dominican Life Center. She was 87 and in her 69th year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Patricia-Slattery-webThe Mass of Christian Burial was held in the congregation cemetery on April 18. A Memorial Mass will be held April 26 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Cath­erine Chapel followed by a “Ritual of Remembering” at 1:30 p.m. in the Dominican Life Center.

Sister Patricia was born in St. Joseph, Mich., to Clifford and Opal Taylor Slattery. She graduated from St. Joseph High School and received a bachelor’s degree in English from Siena Heights College, now Siena Heights Uni­versity, in Adrian.

She spent 58 years ministering in edu­cation. During that time, she served as an elementary teacher from 1955 to 1961 at St. Mary in Georgetown and St. Mary Help of Christians in Aiken, S.C. She also worked in St. Charles, Ill.; and East Lansing, Flint and Detroit, Mich. She taught in the elementary grades at St. Scholastica School in Detroit for 26 years, and was a librarian for 12 years. Sister Pa­tricia became a resident of the Weber Center Community in Adrian in 2010.

Sister Patricia is survived by her nieces and nephews, and her Adrian Dominican community.
