Catholic Charities Pee Dee earns SNAP grant

CONWAY—Catholic Charities Pee Dee has launched a new service to assist people in applying for the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP.

The Pee Dee office was recently awarded a grant funded by the CCUSA-Walmart Foundation that enables the Catholic Charities office to educate individuals and families in the Pee Dee about the SNAP program and provide them with enrollment assistance.

By partnering with SC Thrive, Catholic Charities Pee Dee has access to Benefit Bank that allows for a quick and easy process to apply for SNAP benefits that takes about 30 minutes. Anyone who would like assistance may call the Pee Dee office at 855-377-1357 ext. 1 to set up an appointment.

SNAP is the program formerly known as food stamps and is a federal nutrition program that helps individuals and households stretch their food budget and purchase healthy foods.

These benefits can be used to purchase food at grocery stores, convenience stores, and even some farmers’ markets.

People of all ages can use SNAP, including families, individuals living alone or with roommates, and even those who are homeless.

Those who are working or have other regular sources of income, such as Social Security or a pension, can often receive SNAP benefits as well.
